I sketch my morning
in pencil lead grey,
not trusting myself with ink
in the pale pink
of dawn.
I turn the coffee on.
Then, the news.
Both brew black,
and my mood swings back
and forth
from navy to cobalt,
from cerulean to indigo,
before settling
on plain old February blue.

As I told my family today on Facebook, "Dear February, goodbye, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out."
Excellent, colorful write!! xo
Navy, cobalt, cerulean, indigo .. when the setting sun contains these hues it doesn't matter what month! February included .... Happy Leaping.
I love the colours leaping in your words ~
Nice one MZ ~
nice use of color...february would certainly be blue...and you even got an extra day of it this year...dont worry though tomorrow we go green...though i will still take my coffee black
Love the use of color and I do SO relate! Now if I can just get through March -- one day at a time.
Ah the colors of your February...I am blessed here. My jasmine is blooming.
Love it! From penci lead grey to February blue...great!
Love this...I sketch my morning
in pencil lead grey,
not trusting myself with ink
in the pale pink
of dawn....
Great lines!!!!!!!!!!
I love all the colors...this morning there was a thin crust of unexpected white on everything........but it didnt last long.
Amazing...love your colorful words.
I like the coffee and the news both brewing black.
Just think, March is coming soon...and spring! Yay!! I hate winter blues (and blacks). I too really like the coffee and the news both brew black...I think the news is usually a lot more black
MZ, really cool use of color, each color posited an emotion which carried the piece forward, creating quite the story. Great job. Thanks
I was going to comment, "I love the third stanza oodles." Then I went back and thought how brilliant the second one is, with the news and the coffee doing a color duet.
Then I thought, 'Oh hell, I love the whole piece."
As usual, I bow down to you and Fireblossom...You both have more creativity than a person should be allowed to have...
Color and insight and real February here. Wonderful! Hurry up, spring!
This is one of those poems that leaves me speechless! I love the lens of your perception. WOW! esp. love the colors you chose to paint the mood perfectly. thank-you~
This is quite a lovely poem. I really like "both brewed black." And it may be just plain old February blue ... but you have panted much more.
I agree, I love how you painted your view! Ah, yes, both brewed black...February has been that blue month for me. I am ready for green pride :D Well Done~
So beautiful and colourful. Sadly, where I live, February is the early version of Summer- it is all about watermelon and sunshine. Never experienced the blues. :) It feels so exotic to me! :)
I am too lingering between cobalt and lead grey. Beautiful poem!
This is a great blues piece for the day. I love all the colours, and the bitter observations are thought-provoking.
I love the first stanza..."not trusting myself with ink in the pale pink of dawn" is just how I feel when up early.
Beautifully done, MZ.

I hear you! I am about to post mine to the Toads, and my morning was grey as well! Must be something in the air!
Wow, so much already said about this poem, and I agree with it all. Loved the use of colors, especially love that second stanza!
ooooooh! LOVE this one, MZ! {and i love almost every shade of blue.}
♥
Just lovely! You simplify with so much depth!
BUT here in the south... I actually say a big yellow butterfly the other day! It truly felt like a miracle and I got all excited (I felt like a three year old) ha ha. (No tornadoes here, thank goodness)
